Jun 21 2011: Up and away as Lost Chord reaches for the sky
IT’S up, up and away for Lost Chord volunteer Rachel Maturi as she gets ready for the charity’s balloon race lift off!
The South Yorkshire charity that provides interactive musical experiences for people livng with dementia in care homes and day centres across the region is aiming for the skies with its latest fundraiser.
The Lost Chord Grand Balloon Race will be held at Devonshire Green in Sheffield city centre on Saturday, July 16 and is part of the High Notes appeal, the campaign to raise more than £100,000 for the charity.
The balloons, which cost just £2 each, will be released between 2pm and 4pm and there will be great cash prizes for the balloons that travel the longest distance – and for the people who find them.
“It will be quite a spectacle as balloons float across the city for destinations unknown and the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Coun Sylvia Dunkley, will be there to officially set the balloons free,” said Lost Chord Fundraising Manager Tina Harrison.

“We already support 85 homes throughout South Yorkshire and have many more on our waiting list for concerts but to maintain that level of service – and continue with projects in London, Cardiff and Coventry – we need the public’s support.
