Oct 29 2010: Cathedral classics support Lost Chord
SOME of the region’s finest musicians – both professional and amateur – are to bring a touch of Festive sparkle to Sheffield Cathedral in aid of dementia charity Lost Chord.
Sheffield-based Australian pianist David Barnard has assembled an outstanding line-up of musical talent for the evening of classics and Christmas music at the cathedral on December 2.
Joining David will be acclaimed sopranos Deborah Norman and Diana Sharp, baritone Stephen Godward, mezzo-soprano Zena Bradley and bass Richard Mitham.
Between them, they have performed on some of the world’s most famous stages, including La Scala, Milan, Glyndebourne and Bayreuth.
Joining them will be some popular local voices, including Mike Tipler, Stephen Andrews, Andrew McPhee, Joanna Shacklock, Alison and Richard Farmer, Christine Stubbs, David Sanderson and Julie Wilkinson.
Completing the line-up will be the young singers of the Sheffield High School Choir.
“Not only do we have a great range of voices, we also have a fantastic range of music, everything from opera favourites La Boheme, The Magic Flute and Lucia de Lammermoor to Broadway classics West Side Story and Kismet then some popular carols and Christmas pieces, all in new arrangements,” said David.
Lost Chord is the South Yorkshire charity that provides interactive musical experiences for people struggling with dementia in care homes and day centres across the region as well as in South Wales, London and Coventry.
