Nov 18 2022: Forget Me Not Cafe helps conversation at Hackenthorpe home

A HACKENTHORPE care home has launched a new dementia cafe as part of its support for residents living with the condition.

Cotleigh Residential Care Home, part of the Sheffcare group of homes across the city, has opened the Forget Me Not Cafe with the aim of eventually making it part of the wider community.

The intention has been to create a place where residents, families and friends can both relax and enjoy conversation, while also enjoying tea and cakes prepared by the home’s catering team.

“I think it is important that our residents who are living dementia have a space where they can feel both comfortable and secure and a traditional tea room setting seemed to be perfect,” said Cotleigh manager Nick Iwanejko.

“They can feel as though they have gone out for tea or coffee and cake in a safe and totally relaxed environment.

“Now we have the cafe up and running, the next step will be to make it open for the wider community and transform into a real local hub.”
