Oct 25 2022: International soprano Janis Kelly has Sheffield November dates
INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed soprano Janis Kelly comes to Sheffield this November with a programme of classical favourites on a feminine theme.
Heralded by The Sunday Times as a “singing actress of near genius”, Janis will perform A Woman’s Face - a programme of Mozart, Schumann and the works of Robert Burns - at St Andrew’s Church, Psalter Lane, Sheffield, on November 27 at 3pm.
The afternoon recital will feature Schumann’s song-cycle Woman’s Love and Life, alongside pieces by Mozart and songs by Scotland’s national poet Burns.
All the songs are about women and are presented in a carefully linked repertoire which explores the highs and lows of women connected to the composers themselves.
Janis has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and many more opera houses and concert stages around the world.
She also originated the title role of Rufus Wainwright’s Prima Donna at the Manchester International Festival
Janis will be accompanied at the Sheffield recital by city-based pianist David Barnard, well known for his work with Doncaster opera star Lesley Garrett and for a career that has seen him play across the UK, Europe, his native Australia and New Zealand.
Prior to the concert, on Friday November 25 at 7pm, there will also be a chance to see Janis lead a masterclass at Sheffield’s Victoria Hall, where she will be joined by students from the Royal Northern College of Music and singers from further afield, including Australian Baritone sensation Adam Jon, recent runner-up in the prestigious Herald Sun Aria vocal competition in Melbourne.
Janis has given classes for all of the major colleges in the UK and is a professor at the Royal College of Music.
