Feb 12 2021: Westbourne children enjoy the taste of Italy with online cookery class

CHILDREN at Sheffield’s Westbourne School created a tasty family treat when they went online for a special Italian cookery class.

The Broomhill independent school remains closed to all but the children of key workers but that didn’t stop pupils from logging on from their own kitchens to prepare and cook a classic Mediterranean dish.

The idea of a remote cookery class had been suggested at the most recent Westbourne School Council meeting.

The children were challenged to cook a classic Italian Lasagne, a dish that can have many variations for dietary requirements and also requires a variety of kitchen skills.

“Online learning is an essential part of every day education for most of our pupils,” said Westbourne Junior School Deputy Head Adrian Tedcastle, who also demonstrated his culinary skills by acting as head chef for the session.

“But alongside all the usual subjects that form the core of the curriculum, we also want to make sure the experience is as varied as ever so we were delighted when it was suggested we try an online cookery class.

“Fingers crossed we will have families sitting down to a delicious meal and a clean kitchen… once the children have washed up!”
