Nov 11 2020: Pick up an online bargain with Emmaus Sheffield during lockdown

The Emmaus Sheffield second hand superstore may be closed but that doesn’t mean bargain hunting supports have to stop supporting their favourite charity.

For while the retail side of the charity remains closed during lockdown, more items are now being placed for sale on the Emmaus Sheffield Facebook page.

“It was very disappointing for both our companions and our customers when we had to close our second hand superstore for the second time this year,” said Emmaus Sheffield Deputy manager Charley Fedorenko.

“That’s why we are moving some of our more interesting and quirky items - alongside some specifically Christmas themed items - onto our Facebook page, where we are hoping they will generate some extra interest and income.”

“Anything that is bought this way can be picked up via appointment with our Click and Collect service, while we will also be able to deliver larger items, adhering to all COVID-19 safety guidelines at all time.

“Look out too for our eBay page, where we will also be placing some other items.”

Emmaus Sheffield is the drug and alcohol free project that provides a home, support and work for formerly homeless people in the city.

Through its Social Enterprise programme it aims to provide meaningful work and enable the people it supports – known as companions - to eventually become self-supporting once more.

One of the charity’s main fundraising schemes is its extremely popular second hand and vintage store at the organisation’s headquarters in the historic Sipelia Works, close to the city’s Canal Basin.
