Sep 30 2020: Enjoy an outdoor musical experience with Lord Chord musicians

IF you can’t play live music indoors there’s only thing to do…take your musicians outside!

Lost Chord is the South Yorkshire charity that provides vital interactive musical experiences for people living with dementia in care homes and day centres across the region and nationally.

When the COVID-19 forced those homes into lockdown, Lost Chord went on line, offering the chance to enjoy the music of its professional musicians online via YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

In the past few weeks, however, Lost Chord chord musicians have been trialing a series of outdoor performances in the gardens of their London care homes.

And the scheme has proved so successful that Lost Chord Chief Executive Helena Muller now wants to bring the project home to Yorkshire.

“We know that the pandemic has been a difficult time for everybody but for people living with dementia, the strain of not being able to do any of the things they are used to must have been particularly hard,” she said.

“More than 20 years experience has told Lost Chord that music is one of the few things that can actually reach out to people when all other forms of communication have been lost.

“We look forward to being able to return with our musicians to our homes very soon but in the meantime we really do believe that outdoor sessions can provide a very good alternative.

“Our musicians can play in the garden or under the cover of a gazebo and residents can enjoy the full Lost Chord experience from the comfort of their own rooms.

“We believe this is an excellent way to keep the vital service we provide active until we can resume our usual full service and we would be delighted to hear from any home that would like to arrange a visit.”
