WHEN is a chest of drawers not a chest of drawers? When it’s a camper van of course!

A whole new range of ingeniously up-cycled furniture is now on sale at homeless charity Emmaus Sheffield’s popular Cadman Street second hand superstore.

And the imaginative range of furniture transformations which turn the everyday into something special are proving to be extremely popular with customers looking for a quirky approach to interior design.

“Our companions do all the work ourselves and use 100 per cent recycled materials to create some truly remarkable makeovers,” said Emmaus Deputy Manager Charley Fedorenko.

“This is a project that fits in completely with the Emmaus ethos of sustainability and recycling and the items are selling very quickly.

“We are taking items of furniture that might not have make very much if they had been left untouched but after being given some TLC and a fresh approach to restoration they are proving very successful.”

“They are all 100 per cent original and unlike anything you would find on the high street.”

Emmaus Sheffield is the drug and alcohol free project that provides a home, support and work for formerly homeless people in the city.

Through its Social Enterprise programme it aims to provide meaningful work for the people it supports – the Emmaus companions - to eventually become self-supporting once more.
