Jun 30 2020: Schoolboy Jack gets a hero’s welcome from care home staff
SCHOOLBOY Jack Oadley received a hero’s welcome when he gave a cheque for almost £2,000 to Sheffield’s Knowle Hill Residential Care Home.
Jack completed a 10 mile lockdown run to raise money for the Beighton home where his 88-year-old great aunt Pat Tory is a resident.
Jack, who is 12 and a pupil at All Saints School, decided to run 12 times around Rainbow Forge School’s playing film, close to his home in Hackenthorpe, after heating about the care 88-year-old Pat has received from the home, which is operated by Sheffield charity Sheffcare.
And when he arrived at the home to present a cheque for £1,848, staff came out to give him a special round of applause.
“The Knowle Hill team have done an amazing job looking after our Aunty Pat, who has been very poorly with Coronavirus and yet somehow has battled on with great will and determination to see her family again,” said Jack’s mum Rachel.
“The wonderful staff have cared for her through the confusion and heartache that also comes with her being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.”
Knowle Hill manager Diane Harrison commented: “Jack is a real hero to everyone at Knowle Hill, both staff and residents, and we felt we had to give him our full support.
“Our special round of applause was the very least we could do for this very special young man.
