May 07 2020: Online technology helps provide the sound of music with Lost Chord

 TOP South Yorkshire dementia charity Lost Chord is going online to ensure the sound of music through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lost Chord is the organisation that provides vital interactive musical experiences for people living with dementia in care homes and day centres across the region and nationally.

But with those homes currently in lockdown, the charity has turned to 21st century technology to ensure the music can continue to reach out to people when they need it the most.

From now on and until the end of lockdown, Lost Chord will be providing three free sessions per week via YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

And even homes that do not normally participate in the Lost Chord programme will be able to access the sessions free of charge.

All the sessions can also be downloaded for future easy access, ensuring fine music by professional musicians when it is needed most.

“We do sincerely hope that everyone who needs our interactive service can access it at any time to raise the spirits of those in lockdown in residential homes throughout the country,” said Lost Chord Chief Executive Helena Muller.

“We are reaching out to all our old friends and hope to make some new ones at a time when they desperately need that musical distraction which is vital in all our lives.

“We will continue to offer this free service while ever funds last but we are, of course, extremely grateful for all donations in order to extend the scheme as long as possible.”
