Apr 04 2013: Dump the diets and find a healthier lifestyle with Get Physical

DUMP the diets! Ditch the scales! Drop the inches! It sounds like a weight loss regime that’s too good to be true.

But Sheffield personal trainers and nutritional consultants Paul Lonsdale and Ann Hirst insist their no-nonsense, no gimmicks approach to shedding the pounds really will deliver results.

The couple, who run Get Physical Ltd from their private gym at Hunter’s Bar in Sheffield, have 60 years combined experience in the health and fitness industry.

It is their decades of knowledge that has led them to develop “Dump the Diets” the first part of which is available for free download.

“Why, despite having a ‘health food’ industry worth over £2 billion in the UK, are obesity levels rising faster than ever?” asks Paul.

“If you’re trying to lose weight it makes you just one more out of the other 13 million adults currently on a diet in the UK.

“Like millions of others, you may already be on your second or third diet this year, throwing hundreds of pounds of your hard earned money into the UK weight loss industry.”

The system Paul and Ann have developed though, ditches fad diets and quick fixes in favour of a sustained approach to lifestyle change, combining healthy eating with a general fitness regime.

“People look at us, and even though we are now both 50 plus, they assume that because we still have well defined physiques with low body fat levels, we must live like saints on salads and spend all our time in the gym, regularly jumping on the weighing scales to see if we’ve gained another ounce,” Paul says.

“We’re sorry to disappoint but you will only see us training two or three times per week for about 45 minutes per workout and I will do an occasional jog and Ann will power-march.

“If you were to look in our fridge, not only would you find chicken, fish and salad veg, but a pizza, a bottle of wine or a couple of beers and it’s not unusual to find us in a pub on Saturday night.

“Monday to Friday we may be strict about our training, eating and drinking habits but then we have the weekend off because it’s all about balance and quality of life!”

The couple’s aim with Dump the Diets is to use simple evolutionary lessons and mix them with unarguable elements of biology and physiology to create a healthier approach to food and fitness.

That, together with a liberal sprinkling of common sense and a dash of humour should give the reader the knowledge to understand exactly what will actually work and more importantly, what can’t possibly work, demonstrating along the way, the utter folly of many of the almost countless, seemingly unending stream of diets presently on the market.

“We will show you how to look at the big picture, how to actually see the wood for the trees, thereby cutting through the confusion, hype, contradiction and misleading information in the popular media and from the Internet,” says Paul.
