Jan 22 2013: Celebrate National Dignity Action Day with Sheffcare
SHEFFCARE is celebrating National Dignity Action Day with special events at its residential homes in the city.
National Dignity Action Day, which is supported by broadcaster and TV star Dame Joan Bakewell, aims to highlight the importance of dignity for people living in care.
Sheffcare, the not for profit organisation that operates a chain of 11 residential care homes across Sheffield, will mark the day on February 1 with special events at all of its sites.
Activities range from pamper days and coffee/cake mornings to placing thoughts onto a dignity tree and having debates about what dignity means to Sheffcare residents.
“We are delighted that our homes are supporting National Dignity Action Day,” said Sheffcare Chief Executive Belinda Gibson.
“At Sheffcare we know that all our residents are treated with dignity and consideration every day.
“Our homes are their homes and it is the aim of every Sheffcare team member to ensure our residents enjoy a full and happy life with us.”
The most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission found that all sites visited met required standards of quality and safety for residents and inspectors noted that staff treated residents in a kind manner and spoke with them patiently and respectfully.
Staff were also observed to maintain people's privacy and dignity when carrying out personal care and maintained confidentiality when speaking to people and other staff.
