Oct 17 2012: Bangers add an extra sizzle to the Devonshire Arms menu

THE humble banger becomes the star of the show as The Devonshire Arms at Middle Handley celebrates British Sausage Week.

One of the biggest events in the meat industry calendar, British Sausage Week runs from November 5 to 11 and this year sees comedian Al Murray promoting proceedings with his King of the Sizzle national tour.

But at the Devonshire Arms, there will be a more stylish approach to the traditional favourite as the pub and restaurant joins forces with Moss Valley Fine Meats for a special evening on Wednesday, November 7.

The Moss Valley team will give a talk and a sausage making demonstration – including a chance to try for yourself - while the menu for the evening will include a choice of three special Moss Valley Sausages, all served with the traditional accompaniment of mashed potato and onion gravy.

Tables can be booked from 7pm and the cost of £17 per head also includes a glass of local ale or wine and a sticky toffee pudding desert.

“The sausage is such an essential part of the national menu that we tend to take it for granted,” said Devonshire Arms manager Alistair Myers.

“What we aim to do with our British Sausage Week celebration is demonstrate that our local favourites, all made from quality meat from the Moss Valley Fine Meats farm just outside Sheffield, can easily stand alongside more fashionable foreign contenders for the title of top sausage.

“Moss Valley produce a mouth watering selection and our chef Tom Lawson will be creating an equally mouth watering traditional supper.”
