IT was one of the most famous and notorious titles in British journalism…and it’s sudden demise in the summer of 2011 sent shock waves through the industry.
Now hear the inside story of the downfall of the News of the World as journalist Jules Stenson talks about his career with the controversial newspaper giant.
Jules Stenson: The Death of the News of the World is presented by Paul French in collaboration with the University of Sheffield Students’ Union at The Foundry on Thursday March 8.
Jules Stenson worked at the News of the World for 15 years and as head of features he was responsible for breaking stories on the split of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills, the drugs shame of the Olympic swimming hero Michael Phelps and the bombshell revelations that lost John Terry the England captaincy.
Now the University of Sheffield graduate is ready to discuss the biggest media story of all - the death of the News of the World.
From the well-publicised allegations to the so-far unspoken reality, Jules will look into the reasons for the paper’s closure and the future for popular newspapers in the wake of the Leveson inquiry.
He will be joined by former University of Sheffield Journalism Studies graduate and Steel [now Forge] Press editor Paul French who, as compere for the second half of the show, will stimulate debate about freedom of the press and the ethics of modern journalism.
Part of the University of Sheffield Students’ Union FLASH series of events at The Foundry, Jules Stenson: The Death of the News of the World is open to members of the public.
The evening begins at 7pm and tickets cost £5 or £3 for students.
