Mar 10 2011: Flying the flag for St George and Lost Chord

TWO of the region’s best-known professional musicians will headline a concert at Sheffield Cathedral in support of dementia charity Lost Chord on April 7.

Australian-born pianist David Barnard, who is based in Sheffield, will be joined by internationally renowned Sheffield operatic soprano Deborah Norman for the concert that was originally scheduled for December 2 last year.

Joining them will be tenor, Jeremy Finch, who sang the title role in English National Opera's recent production of Candide

Also on stage for the evening will be popular Sheffield choirs the Brincliffe Consort and Bel Canto Choir, with a chamber orchestra in support.

The concert will feature music from the world of opera, musicals and the classics and, with St George’s Day only a few days way, will celebrate with works by Sullivan and Parry.

Lost Chord is the charity that provides interactive musical experiences for people struggling with dementia in care homes and day centres across the region.

In February, the organisation raised £6,000 with the help of Doncaster Diva Lesley Garrett, who subsequently appointed David as her official accompanist after working with him at the charity event.

Tickets cost £5 in advance on 01709 811160 or £7.50 on the door. Tickets from the postponed December 2 evening will also still be valid.
