Oct 24 2009: Awards success in boom year for Benchmark

SHEFIELD company Benchmark Recruit has been named best young business of the year at the Yorkshire Excellence in Business Awards.
The recruitment and retention consultancy was launched four years ago by partners Louisa Harrison-Walker and Amy Tingle.
Their team joined them for the awards ceremony in Leeds which was hosted by comedian and TV star Jon Culshaw, with guest speaker Schools Secretary Ed Balls.
More than 250 entries had been received in the category – which was open to business launched in the past five years – but the judges particularly highlighted Benchmark’s ability to buck the trend in a difficult economic climate as they enjoyed a record-breaking year in recruitment.
Benchmark also won praise for taking brave decisions and investing at a time when other companies were making economies and for putting profits back into the company to assure a sustainable future.
“We feel we are doing recruitment the way it should be done and that makes a big difference to the way we are perceived both by companies and by people looking for new opportunities,” Louisa said.
“We are now well known for visiting every client and meeting all the people we put forward for jobs, following up with welcome visits once they are in post.
“We are working with fantastic local and national organisations and ambitious job seekers and believe that is a major factor in our current level of success in a competitive industry.
“We are delighted to have won this award which we know reflects the high level of commitment displayed by all the team at Benchmark.”
