Oct 10 2014: Coda submits plans for major Devonshire Quarter development

PLANS have been submitted to Sheffield Council for the major redevelopment of a site in the city centre’s Devonshire Quarter.

Coda Planning has submitted an application to the Council for the rejuvenation of a retail block at the end of Devonshire Street that currently houses a number of businesses, including second hand bookstore Rare and Racy.

“This is a block which is falling into a state of disrepair and without action its long term use will be compromised,” said Coda Planning Director Adam Murray.

“However, we believe that the character and cultural significance of the street is crucial and we want to retain that, so we have worked with our architects to achieve a design that respects this character but also creates internal space more suitable for use.

“Therefore the future appearance of the new building will be almost identical to the current structure and allow occupancy of the building to continue.

“In addition, we are also creating 14 new homes, with a roof garden and court yard, with access from the rear.

“This aspect of the proposals in particular will significantly improve this part of the area which is suffering an increase in anti-social behaviour.

“We have already had a very successful and constructive pre-planning meeting with Sheffield City Council and now look forward to receiving a favourable response at full planning level.
