Nov 08 2011: SheffCare provides new standards in dementia care

SHEFFIELD’S leading provider of residential care homes and day care for the elderly has launched a new service for people living with dementia.

SheffCare, the registered charity that serves the needs of more than 1,000 older people with 11 homes across the city, has opened a Dementia Unit at Knowle Hill Residential Home in Mosborough.

The newly opened wing, which meets all requirements of national regulating body the Care Quality Commission, has rooms for 12 people living with dementia.

“We have undergone an extensive programme of refurbishment and improvement and are delighted with the results,” said Knowle Hill Manager Diane Harrison.

“All our specialist team have received full dementia care training and all the services we will be providing are tailored to individual needs.

“We believe in providing a safe but stimulating atmosphere in the unit and in our garden and we have a full range of activities and a specially trained activity worker who will be able to identify what each of the residents needs to make their life more rewarding.”

A few vacancies are still available and families wanting to take a look around Knowle Hill can call Diane on 0114 248 3594 or simply call in at any time and ask for a tour.
